Semalt Presents Major Types Of Google Analytics Filters

The Google Analytics filters are an excellent way to modify and change the data within all page views of your website. They can be used to include and exclude information, and to make actual changes in how the data will look like in your Google Analytics reports. Moreover, the filters help us transform the information so that its raw form is changed to the aligned shape and it comes up to the expectations of the users. As a result, you get plenty of chances to grow your business on the internet, and Google Analytics can apply filters from one-page view to another so that your site's bounce rate gets decreased to a great extent. Once the data is fully processed, you can see the final results in the UI reports of your Google Analytics account.

Ivan Konovalov, the Semalt Customer Success Manager, describes below the major types of Google Analytics filters:

Spambot Filter

The first category is spambot filter. It is the most fantastic and incredible type, and it's easy to check in the View Settings page. For this, you should visit the admin section and look for the Bot Filter option. Click that option and create filters for all suspicious IP addresses. Make sure you get rid of the spiders and bots using this option and check the box Activate before closing the window. The spambot filters help you get rid of bots and spiders and ensure the quality of your website traffic.

Exclude Internal IPs

Another option is that you should exclude the internal IPs and all those IP addresses that look suspicious to you. That can be done from your Google Analytics account. Go to the account and open the View Settings option. Here you will see the Create Filter option which you have to click to create new filters for your site.

First, you have to decide if you are looking to build new filters or want to apply the previous filters to your site. Once you have decided it, the next option is to have a sufficient number of filters and apply them to as many pages as possible. Click the Select option once you have created the filters and it's now time to apply them to your site. Meanwhile, it is important to know the difference between predefined filters and custom filters. For your ease, we would like to tell that preset filters are the specific types of templates that you can use to create filters automatically. On the other hand, the custom filters allow you to customize and change the settings of your filters before they get activated.

Force each URL to lowercase

It's an important step and should not be ignored at any cost. You should force the URLs from uppercase to lowercase and adjust their settings as per the rules and regulations of Google Analytics. If you have plenty of pages with different URLs, you must convert them to lowercases as soon as possible. Do not let them show up in the search engine results until or unless you have lowercased them.

Final Thoughts

Once you have adjusted the above settings and applied the filters accordingly, the quality of your website traffic will start improving. The filters should be implemented to the site only when it is hit by suspicious or anonymous IP addresses. Otherwise, there is no need to activate this filters.
